Squad Spirit Methodologies

What is a Squad?

Like in any dev team,

A group of 3 people with complementary skills, that work towards the same goal.

We work as an Independant Group in our OneTeam*.

  • OneTeam = Brainboard

Values

Autonomy & responsibility

Every member of the Squad need to be individualist as well as responsible for her/his actions.

Caring for each other

We support each other, professionally and personally, during crisis and celebrate during success.

Working with each other

We work together to up-skill ourselves, all at the same time. Every reflection is a group challenge.

For OneGoal

We have one and only one goal per Quarter. The challenge is to work together to find viable solutions, as fast & efficient we can be.

Client Centric

We work around a Client’s pain-point or need to make sure every problematic is reasoned well.

Understand the goals

πŸ•΅πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Discovery

We have an hypothesis to confirm with our Target

Eg. Automations Benchmark

πŸ“š Community

An external or internal communication, sorted by Type (SM, Use Case, Article, Video, LP, Infography, Brain-talk, Partnership)

Eg. Brain talks

πŸ” Squad Epic

A major project, to be challenged together, as a team.

Eg. Website Architecture V3.0

πŸš€ Launching Rockets

This is a place where we coordinate all new launches, major or minor.

Eg. Prepare launch of Import Infrastructure

πŸ“† Event

Important event to focus on.

Eg. Cloud Expo 2021 β€” β€£

🧠 Team Spirit

A classical brainstorming session usually to solve a specific pain-point.

Eg. We recently discovered that users would like to upload their own infrastructure.

πŸ‘₯ Nice to have

Something that may help us internally to go forward, even more efficient.

Eg. Templates for LinkedIn Posts

Methodologies we use

One place for everything

We, as a team, use Notion as the centralised internal database.

You’ll have access to:

  • β€” sorted by date
  • Squad Spirit - Our dedicated space on Notion

Brainstorm

We use tools such as Miro (Tools Stack) for every meeting.

The idea is to go from a Problem to a Solution

OVERVIEW <> DETAILED VIEW

Growth Machine @Brainboard

Agility

We divide Epics into Sprints of 1 month where we all 3 focus on the same common Onegoal, apart of the day-to-day routine as a sales, marketer or engineer could have.

Driven by Growth

We base all our decision-making based on data and a number of experimentations. Without it, there is no quantitative reason for anything.

Obviously Growth = A/B testing = quantitative data to choose A or B = Scale with A

60%, 20%, 10%

60% for common projects = Challenge the team with common objectives

30% for day-to-day routine = Challenge yourself with tasks you did not have time to finish

10% for learning = Fix yourself one objective per Quarter and work to be better!

SPACE Framework

It is well known that measuring productivity in tech is not only difficult, it can also be counter-productive. Counting the amount of lines of code or commits can easily be cheated or simply turn dev team (for example) away from the real goal : building a quality app.

Research teams from GitHub, University of Victoria, and Microsoft actually found that productivity is strongly related to happiness at work, and have thus created SPACE : the acronym for Satisfaction, Performance, Activity, Communication, and Efficiency, the dimensions needed to understand and measure productivity.

For each of these dimensions, they suggest a number of distinct metrics that apply to different levels, including individual-, team-, and system-level.

The SPACE of Developer Productivity

We hate CVs

Everyone has a chance to join Brainboard.

So recruitment is made easy with simplified and efficient processes:

  • The Applicant is recommended through Slack OR we find a good profile on LinkedIn
  • The Applicant sends us a video presenting her/himself & answers a form β†’ determine what she/he is good and bad at
  • If Pass, workshop of 2 to 3 hours with the team
  • GO or NOGO posted-3-days with detailed feedback (+ or -)
